Violence abruptly erupted in Karachi on Friday night as armed persons torched a number of vehicles and forcibly shut down shops and fuel stations across the city, coinciding with a sudden surge in killings in metropolis. Tension gripped various parts of city as unknown armed men indulged in firing in air in various localities.

At least eight people were killed in different incidents of violence in city. Saddar, Laiquatabad, Jamshaid Quarters, Garden, New Karachi, Malir and Gurumandir were among the worst-hit by violence. Armed men reportedly torched three vehicles in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Landhi and Khada Market areas. Police found two bodies bearing torture marks near ICI Bridge in the limits of Docks police station. The deceased were identified as Feroz, 25, and Zohaib Faisal, 28, who lived in Ramswami of the Old City area.

Police said that both young men had been kidnapped before being killed. Their bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities. Abdul Qadir was gunned down on Mirza Adam Khan Road in the limits of Chakiwara police station. The deceased lived in the same area. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for an autopsy.

Noorullah, 20, was shot dead in the Qasba Colony area near the Manghopir Road in the limits of Pirabad police station. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Abdul Ghafoor, 28, was stabbed to death by his brother over a petty dispute in Zia Colony in the limits of Mominabad police station. An unidentified man was gunned down near the Banaras Flyover in the jurisdiction of North Nazimabad police station. Police, who found a pistol and some valuables from the crime scene, believe the man was killed while resisting a robbery attempt. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Saleemuddin, 52, was shot dead after he tried to resist a motorcycle snatching in Chakra Goth of Korangi. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. A 25-year-old woman, Ambreen, was shot dead in Memon Society in the limits of Bagdadi police station. She was killed by one of her brothers over a domestic dispute. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.
